Salinas, Ecuasal - 2 Aug

Just southeast of Salinas is an area with a large salt-collection plant called Ecuasal. It's a fabulous area for waders and other waterbirds, and I visited on 2nd and 8th August.

Peruvian Pelicans were the most obvious large bird, but there were plenty of Roseate Spoonbills, White Ibis, 4 Chilean Flamingo, Great Egret, Snowy Egret and Tricoloured Heron. Waders included 2 Marbled Godwit, American Oystercatcher, Black-necked Stilt, Short-billed Dowitcher, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Least Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Red-necked Phalarope, Wilson's Phalarope, Willet, Turnstone, Snowy Plover.

Only a few gulls, principally Grey-hooded Gull with a few Kelp Gulls. Gull-billed Tern and Common Tern were both in small numbers.
