Salinas sits on a small peninsula that represents the western-most point on the mainland of South America, and the tip of the peninsula is a small reserve. It's a good spot to watch Humpback Whales as the pass by, and there is a small Sea-Lion colony. It is an excellent sea-watching spot, with bags of potential. I visited on 2nd and 10th, and on both days saw Wandering Tattler on the rocks, and Peruvian Booby passing by. Blue-footed Booby are numerous here, and both Brown Pelican and Peruvian Pelican were fishing just off-shore.
The reserve continues past the rocky headland down the beach to Ecuasal, and on both days I found a large flock of 100 or so Surfbirds along this stretch.
