Summer Tanager, and other migrants - 3rd May

Spring migration has accelerated a little. Warbler numbers and diversity haven't changed much. Warblers seen this weekend include lots of Yellow-rumped everywhere, smaller numbers of Yellow are also widespread, and a few Palm persist. Black-and-white are now pretty much everywhere. A single Northern Parula in Forest Park was the only other warbler I found.

Many other migrants have started to arrive however. Pick of the bunch was a fine male Summer Tanager at Jamaica Bay on Sunday. Other new arrivals included:
Jones Beach Indigo Buntings, Brown Thrashers, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Black-bellied Plover, Willet and Semi-palmated Plover
Jamaica Bay White-eyed Vireo, House Wren, Glossy Ibis and Forster's Tern
Five Islands Park Warbling Vireo.

A cracking male Summer Tanager at the North Garden at Jamaica bay.
Two Indigo Buntings were feeding on the grassy margin at Jones' Beach
Red-breasted Nuthatch in the pines on the median strip at Jones' Beach.
Lots of Brown Thrashers all over Jones' Beach
Warbling Vireo at Five Islands Park
23 Greater Yellowlegs at Five Islands Park on Saturday
My first Glossy Ibis sighting in the USA, at Jamaica Bay. Woohoo!

Several Forster's Tern overhead at Jamaica Bay
Breeding plumage Horned Grebe at Five Islands park.
A flock of shorebirds at Jones' Beach. Possibly new arrivals.
