Another good day for warblers in Central Park. Much the same cast as yesterday, with the addition of a Worm-eating Warbler high up in a tree near Tupelo meadow. My first Blackpoll Warbler turned up there as well, as did a Black-throated Green Warbler. A single Blue-winged Warbler was near Azalia Pond, as was a Cape May Warbler. Northern Parulas have arrived in numbers, and are now challenging Black-and-white Warbler for second place in the commonest warbler league (Yellow-rumped Warblers' lead is unassailable).
Other good birds for today included a nice Veery by Azalia Pond.
Todays' warbler list in full:
Ovenbird (1)
Worm-eating Warbler (1)
Blue-winged warbler (1)
Black-and-white Warbler (5)
Cape May Warbler (1)
Northern Parula (6)
Magnolia Warbler (5)
Bay-breasted Warbler (1)
Yellow Warbler (2)
Blackpoll Warbler (1)
Black-throated Blue Warbler (3)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (many)
Black-throated Green Warbler (1)
Bay-breasted Warbler, showing very well near Humming Tombstone
Lots of Northern Parula everywhere today, feeding on the tiny caterpillars that seems to be the staple for all the warblers passing through at this time of year.
Ovenbird.
