Marshlands Conservancy - 13th March

The weather has taken a decisive turn for the warmer over the last couple of days. There is still plenty of snow on the ground, but it's melting fast. I spent a couple of hours at Marshlands Conservancy just to see what was about. The main woods were very quiet, with only a couple of Wild Turkeys and 2 Red-tailed Hawks. All the action was up at the feeders by the car park, where there were 4 species of sparrow, Black-capped Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Cardinal, Downy Woodpecker and Yellow-throated Sapsucker. A pair of Common Raven were displaying, and possibly even nest-building.

This rather tatty Common Raven was soaring high over the trees, carrying a bunch of leaves. Presumably some sort of breeding display.
