Signs of winter aplenty at Jones' Beach today with flocks of
Black Scoters passing by offshore, along with small numbers of
Common Loon, Red-throated Loon, Surf Scoter and
Purple Sandpiper. Large flocks of waders at the coast guard station, including
Dunlin, Grey Plover, American Oystercatcher and
Sanderling. 3
Royal Terns and 1
Forster's Tern were a nice sight. Few passerines today however apart from larger flocks of
Tree Swallows moving through.
Purple Sandpiper. 2 very confiding birds at the jetty.
Knot. Quite a few at the cast guard station, this one was with a small flock of Grey Plovers in the West End car park.
Surf Scoter. My first of the winter.
Red-throated Loon.
Merlin on the coast guard station aerial.
Chipping Sparrow.
