Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Boca Raton - 22nd July

This is a very  nice wetland, quite close to Fort Lauderdale, and with plenty of birds. The headline item for me were the many Limpkin, none of which appeared to be scared of people at all. There is a large White Ibis colony in the main swamp here, adjacent to the Marsh Trail. Also in the heronry were Tricoloured Heron, Little Blue Heron, Anhinga and Snowy Egret. While watching the heronry I disturbed a Smooth-billed Ani, a very nice surprise.

Apart from birds I bumped into a Nine-banded Armadillo, and had an amazing sighting of a hunting Bobcat, see this page for the details.

Limpkin, very confiding birds indeed...
...even the very young ones were unfazed by my presence.

Mottled Duck. A bit boring, but what can you do?
Black-bellied Whistling Duck
White Ibis
Smooth-billed Ani
Common Moorhen with a chick
Alligator. Only a couple visible, but surely many more present.
